01The jacquard head
The jacquard machine (head) sits above the loom and decides which warp ends are lifted on each pick.
- Hooks
- Vertical wires; each hook controls one end or a group of warp ends through the harness.
- Griffe (knives)
- Moving blades that lift the hooks selected for the next pick.
- Needles
- On mechanical jacquards, horizontal needles push hooks in or out of the griffe's path.
- Spring box
- Returns the needles to their position after selection.
- Cylinder & pattern cards
- On mechanical jacquards, punched cards carry the design. Electronic jacquards use selection modules instead.
- Guide board (grate)
- Board that keeps hooks and moving parts aligned so they lift cleanly. We make this
02The harness
The harness connects the jacquard head to the individual warp ends below.
- Neck cords
- Connect the hooks to the harness cords.
- Harness cords
- Cords that run down to the warp, one or more per hook.
- Comber board
- Perforated board that spaces the harness cords accurately across the loom width. We make this
- Mails (eyes)
- Eyelets through which each warp end passes, lifted by its harness cord.
- Lingoes
- Weights at the bottom of each cord that pull it back down after lifting.
03Small jacquard spare parts
High-wear plastic fittings that are replaced regularly to keep a jacquard running smoothly.
- Jacquard bobbin
- Plastic bobbin used in jacquard assemblies. We make this
- Jacquard button
- Small plastic fitting used on jacquard and harness assemblies. We make this
- T bush
- T-shaped bush that reduces wear where parts move against each other. We make this
- Wire heald comb
- Comb that keeps wire healds evenly spaced. We make this
Jacquard designs differ between makers and between mechanical and electronic models, so the same part can look slightly different on your machine. Send us a sample or photo and we'll match it.
