Power loom spare parts HSN code

Which HSN code do loom spare parts fall under? Here is a plain-language overview of where parts and accessories of weaving machines sit in the Harmonised System, and what to confirm with your adviser before you invoice or import.

01The short answer

In the Harmonised System (HS), on which India's HSN codes are based, parts and accessories of textile machines are grouped under heading 8448. For weaving machines (looms) and their auxiliary machinery, such as dobbies and jacquards, the usual starting point is sub-heading 8448 49. Reeds, healds and heald frames have their own sub-heading, 8448 42.

Some items need a closer look. A plastic article that cannot be identified as a loom part may instead be classified in Chapter 39 (plastics and articles thereof), for example heading 3926. India's tariff also adds further digits to the six-digit HS code, and the full eight-digit code for a specific item should be confirmed by your adviser.

02Sub-headings of 8448 that relate to looms

Heading 8448 covers auxiliary machinery for, and parts and accessories of, the textile machines of headings 8444 to 8447. Heading 8446 is weaving machines (looms). The six-digit sub-headings most relevant to weavers are:

HS sub-headingWhat it covers (summary)
8448 11Dobbies and jacquards themselves, and card reducing, copying, punching or assembling machines used with them
8448 19Other auxiliary machinery for the machines of headings 8444 to 8447
8448 42Reeds for looms, healds and heald frames
8448 49Other parts and accessories of weaving machines (looms) or of their auxiliary machinery
8448 59Other parts and accessories of the machines of heading 8447 (knitting, stitch-bonding, lace, braid, tufting and similar machines), not looms

These are summaries of the six-digit HS sub-headings, not the legal text. India's Customs Tariff and GST schedules use eight-digit codes under these sub-headings, so check the current tariff for the exact line.

03How loom parts are usually classified

  • Parts suitable for use solely or principally with a particular kind of machine are generally classified with that machine's parts. That is why parts recognisable as loom or jacquard parts usually point to heading 8448.
  • Parts of general use, and goods that have their own heading (such as standard fasteners, springs, bearings or belts), are classified under those headings rather than as loom parts.
  • Plastic articles that cannot be identified as loom parts may fall in Chapter 39, for example heading 3926 (other articles of plastics).
  • Material, function and how the item is described all matter, so describe each part clearly on invoices: its name, its material and the machine it is used on.

04HSN codes on GST invoices in India

Under GST, tax invoices show the HSN code of the goods supplied. The number of digits you must show depends on your turnover and the type of supply, while shipping bills and bills of entry for exports and imports use the full eight-digit code from the Customs Tariff.

GST rates are fixed by government notification and are linked to the HSN code, so classification and rate go together. We don't list GST rates on this page because they depend on the final classification and can change. Your CA or GST practitioner can confirm the current rate.

05Importing loom parts into Vietnam

Vietnam's import tariff is built on the same six-digit HS codes, extended to eight digits under the ASEAN Harmonised Tariff Nomenclature (AHTN). Import duty, VAT and any preferential rate under a trade agreement depend on the final code and on the documents provided, so confirm them with your customs broker before shipping.

When you request a quotation, ask us to describe each part with its material and the machine it is used on. Clear descriptions help your broker classify the goods.

06Checklist before you invoice or import

  1. List each part with its trade name, material and the machine it is used on.
  2. Note the HSN code your supplier shows on their invoice for the same item.
  3. Ask your CA, GST practitioner or customs broker to confirm the eight-digit code for your use.
  4. Confirm the current GST rate or import duty for that code.
  5. Use the same description and code consistently on your invoices and import documents.

Need a quotation with clear product descriptions for your CA or customs broker? Send us your parts list and we'll include the HSN code shown on our invoice for each item.
